Review on Bilstein 24 188227 4600 Shock Absorber by Pedro Curtis

Very bad results, I only had to take them off after 500 miles.

Such rave reviews all over the truck blog "You will never regret putting a Bilstein in your truck" and I had a positive experience with it on a Tacoma a few years ago. But on this truck they were absolutely awful, a waste of time and money and I had to replace them with a set of Monroes. to get rid of the slight bounce on rough pavement that annoyed me during my long ride up, you guessed it, rough roads, and I was assured that Billies better cushioning would do this and give me a slightly stiffer but smoother ride (I know it seems a contradiction in terms, but that's what a good high-performance damper should do). I have the exact opposite. The Billies were incredibly soft with a complete loss of rebound damping. ride and handling problems that B has caused or should list; 1. Bouncing on rough roads has increased dramatically.2. Front end dive during hard braking increased dramatically.3. Front-end rebound after heavy braking, the nose of the truck would shake 3-4 times if you don't apply the brakes at the end of a moderate stop.4. Excessive leaning or rolling to the outside of the turn. Body roll during a sharp turn was unnerving.5. Roll from side to side on uneven road surfaces.6. By simply sitting in the driver's seat, you could violently rock the truck from side to side just by rocking in the driver's seat. And surprisingly, small bump compliance has gotten WORSE. Now you can feel every bump in the road surface. In summary, these Bilstein 4700 shocks on my Silverado seemed to reduce sag on bumps with almost no rebound damping, which is the opposite of what a good shock should do. They had ride and handling performance that was far inferior to the original 37,000 mile shocks and I had to replace them after only 500 miles.

Pros
  • Nice design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
