Failing to find balance

I just need thick padding to protect my tailbone and thighs while learning to skate at age 37. I don't care how I look. These shorts, like others, appear to be discreet so they can be worn under clothing. I'm about to fall, what do I care if I look like I'm wearing a diaper? It's stupid to aim for a skinny profile because it means the shorts aren't really doing what they're supposed to do: protect. Cons: - The padding is similar to the material of a yoga mat. It might offer a good fit when you're sitting on a hard surface, but it can't really cushion and disperse impact enough to avoid bruising or breaking. Who will fall and hit the quads? Or even hamstrings? There are notches where it doesn't make sense. The padding should focus primarily on the tailbone, buttocks and thighs. There are spots on the buttocks that aren't even stuffed! The same spots I fall on regularly. They're see-through, which means I *have* to wear them under my clothes as underwear. I would prefer if I could just wear them with a t-shirt. It must be advertised. - super long. They cover my kneecaps. Seems unnecessary. Pros: Transparency means breathability. Some padding is better than no padding. Aside from being too long, they fit well. I'll probably keep using them, but I need to find a way to add extra padding here. Not super happy with this purchase.
