I'm into CrossFit with macro counting and I want to hit my protein goals and I wanted a light post workout shake. I also eat special diets - gluten free and low FODMAP - pretty much everything makes me crabby. I will not use flavored or prepared protein products as sweeteners, thickeners, flavors etc are a disaster for me. I chose the unflavored MF hydrolyzate as it would be the least disruptive to my digestive system, which is great! I take a shake every time I work out - 5-6 days a week - and no problem. I add dextrose and cocoa powder to this unflavored whey and blend with an immersion blender for the perfect chocolate smoothie. It's a bit foamy and chalky when it's first mixed, but if I mix it up before I take my son to school, it's great after I've had my classes and done my training. Or maybe it just tastes better because my body is ready for fuel, who knows. I also sometimes add PB2 powder for extra flavor, coconut water powder and/or Himalayan salt for electrolytes, and MCT oil if I'm going to a contest and need serious rocket fuel between contests. I've been using protein powders, mostly MF, for about 6 months, and during that time I've noticed improvements in muscle mass and strength. It definitely helps me meet my overall protein goals for the day, and I like to think that eating fast-acting protein right after a workout also helps.
