Review on Cloyes 9 1157 Street True Roller by Adam Huper

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Looks good. Definitely not OEM style. Fewer plates per link. Better? The worst? Time will tell

I liked the idea of having roller bushings on the pins rather than having the links run directly over the teeth. This benefit comes from the fact that there is only one structural plate on each side of the chain. I hope this is a good chain kit. For installation pains, be better. 4 stars because I can't be sure when I look at it. The teeth on the sprockets are slightly narrower than the original. I don't think that's really a problem, but I'm not sure yet. The drive ring (on the crankshaft) has three keyways. One keyway is for shaft assembly, one holds the cam 2° relative to the crank and the other keyway translates the cam relative to the crank. One for higher RPM, one for lower RPM and one in between for factory installation. I went with stocks. See instructions for details. The fit was snug, almost perfect. Make sure you can rotate the handle a few degrees to either side to ensure proper alignment. If your chain is worn out, it's almost certain that your cam and crank are a little worn out. I found many good videos on YouTube that explain the process. I used a marker to make the alignment marks more visible. I also smudged the timing marks on the lid and harmonic balancer so they are easier to see with the sync indicator. For Vortec engines you will need a new timing case cover and new water pump gaskets. It looks like the cap came with pump seals but I don't remember.
