Poor Quality Taps: Thread Repair Kits

Very disappointing. I wanted to install a 1/4-20 bit in a 1/4" cast iron body. The bits are all the same length and are a bit long. I noticed right away that the shank end of the specialty tap was not properly ground. "The end had to be square so it would fit in the collar. But the sides of the "square" weren't parallel. So it didn't fit my collar. "Square" is not centered on the axis of the tap, which means the tap is likely cutting the threads a little too large or not round, which I drilled a precise hole in the aluminum sample (also 1/4" thick) and threaded. I installed the insert and found that it floats and rotates. This is not acceptable for my cast iron body, so now I have to disassemble the block, strip the paint, weld the hole, and then drill and tap. So the remedy didn't help me.
