Decent ceiling TV mount - could be better

We recently moved into a new house and needed this TV mount for our patio TV. I measured the VESA holes on our TV and knew it would work before ordering, so it wasn't a problem. This keeps the 55 inch Visio TV away from the vaulted ceiling. Installation isn't as easy as I've experienced with other mounts, but it's not particularly difficult either. Installation issues actually stem from the limited space to connect the parts and the lack of great instructions. A few tips we found during installation to help you out: First, find a ceiling joist stud for mounting. Then find the distance from the wall that your TV can rotate left and right to the furthest point you want, then mark your spot. Usage works, but there are features that just need to be more user-friendly. For example, if the height is in the highest position, the cables will get pinched and can't be moved at all - the cable passage needs to have a cutout, so this isn't a problem as it's never good for cables to get pinched. Also, if you want to rotate or tilt the TV you'll need an Allen key, rather than having to do it with a finger cocking knob like most mounts - this is by far the worst design flaw in my opinion. Due to this issue, we were unable to rotate a TV mount that was "rotatable" when we had guests in our home as we could not find the right size hex wrench. Pooh. This mount works, but I would only recommend it for places where the user doesn't frequently change the tilt or direction of the TV screen.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Security
