They are much wider than a 9" or 10" pie pan. When using them, I take the flat side when the meat tenderizer lightly taps the top of the pan so it cuts through the pie crust. Use tweezers or the tip of a sharp knife to pick up any pieces that weren't completely cut through. I then invent another cake topper based on the drawing and cut it with a knife before placing it on my cake. On this cut, it just reaches the inner rim of my cake, so I roll it over the outer crust and mix it in. As for the core, I wish the drawing wasn't so close to the edge of the cake. Both pans work best in a 10-inch pie pan, if you have one.
