Doesn't work with stones as it can be

Used it to lighten stones but it didn't work like I thought and what I researched promised. Not exactly shiny. Works as intended on cars. As a result, I had to remove it from the stones and try it on. One stone in particular, no matter what I cleaned it with and how many times I cleaned it, it still left a white residue. left over the rock. It wasn't smooth rock, but it wasn't really porous rock either. So I don't know how to restore it to its original state. Anyone have any ideas?
