This glass tube is a must-have for the Berkey water filtration system; otherwise it would be impossible to determine the water level in the lower reservoir and therefore impossible to know how much to add to the upper reservoir. However the washer that came with the nozzle was not thick enough and no matter what my husband did it still leaked until he replaced it with another washer of his own which we were glad we had on hand. After that there are no more problems and it works wonderfully.
