Review on G Technology 0G04093 G RAID Removable Thunderbolt by Richard Surveh

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well after 10 months, fast. The manual and website are confusing, the manual and RAID setup utility are very hard to find

I've been using this drive every day for ten months, it is half full (RAID 1, so about 3.2TB available in 6). It was a great drive, very fast, I connected it via Thunderbolt to a Mac Pro I bought in mid 2014. Searching is still pretty quick despite scrolling through terabytes of photos. Backup with Backblaze and local drives Western Digital My Passport Pro. So I'm still backing up two ways in addition to a RAID 1 configuration, but given how it works I'm pretty happy with continuing to fill it with 5-5.5TB of image data. I'm deducting a star for the poor management. and confusing page. It took over an hour to find the right boot to change raid 0 to raid 1. It was difficult just finding the product page on their website to download the manual. The manual links to a general "support" page, not a drive-specific page. I ended up using Google to find the download I needed. The search function on the website did not show the download when I entered the options "Configurator from Raid 0 to Raid 1". The page titled "G-RAID Removable" is not the correct page for this drive, even though it appears in your search listings for G-RAID with Thunderbolt Removable." The setup utility on this page loads, sees the disk, and boots not - you need one that is not in the search on the site. Don't bother looking! Here's the link: Drive from various external devices in an hour or so I'd give it five stars for now (only had it three days) aside from the annoyance described above.
