Ideal drive for video editing and storage

I bought this drive and it was easy to set up. There is nothing to set up. The drive is already set to RAID 0, which is what I wanted. For those of you who want RAID 1 or JBOD, all you have to do is connect the drive to your computer via THUNDERBOLT or USB 3.0, then go to their website and download the configurator in the DOWNLOAD section for that model. Once started, it gives you three options. RAID 0, RAID 1 and JOBD. It is, and I have no idea why some people write bad reviews about not being

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Good workhorse for editing

I have the 12TB model to run FCPX on a 2012 Macbook Pro. I have a 1080p workflow. The drive has Thunderbolt2 (TB2) and USB3 connectors. I had to look for this specific model as the TB2/USB3 combo is less common. I've spent 7 months with him so far. No problem. Keep the box, it is convenient to carry. My average Thunderbolt2 transfer rate is 422 MB/s. Haven't tested the USB3 speeds yet, but I'm glad I have it so I can connect it to a USB-only system. Simple design, easy to change discs. Quiet…

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR MAC RAID 1 - DON'T GET THIS PRODUCT!

OMG except for the horribly awful documentation and after googling for hours to find the answer here it is clear that AMAZON or Mfgr misrepresented this product - - it's listed as hardware RAID 1 -- but it's not, it's a hard drive pair that can be configured to RAID 1 in software, both by downloading the software or just downloading the $$ software - and finally , it's not what you need. Run away.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • I have no dislikes for this everything is fine

Great hardware but terribly misguided POV support company

I really, really, really want to love G-Tech. I have bought many very good products from them. However, I have to add that their software and customer support makes me scream. I'm a professional consultant and can navigate any system - PC or Mac - or RAID system you have. No problem. I worked in Silicon Valley for 25 years and was even a product manager for a major software product at Adobe Systems. However, finding the right utility to download for this drive is nearly impossible. simply…

Pros
  • Up to 480MB/s - perfect for photo and video editing
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

I've been using this drive every day for ten months, it is half full (RAID 1, so about 3.2TB available in 6). It was a great drive, very fast, I connected it via Thunderbolt to a Mac Pro I bought in mid 2014. Searching is still pretty quick despite scrolling through terabytes of photos. Backup with Backblaze and local drives Western Digital My Passport Pro. So I'm still backing up two ways in addition to a RAID 1 configuration, but given how it works I'm pretty happy with continuing to fill it…

Pros
  • 2 x 7200rpm removable enterprise class hard drives
Cons
  • Exchange availability

These boxes are strong, fast and secure. I have used two external hard drives for years and then Drobos, hard drives age quickly and DROBOs are a HUGE WASTE of MONEY, they are not durable in terms of software, they break and the support is only good for the first year IF YOU DON'T ALREADY REMOVE THE DEVICE HAVE GRANDPA. After the last Drobo I bought crawled in slow motion and didn't upload my 50,000 files (they explain that a lot of files can slow it down I think. Well I'm a photographer so…

Pros
  • Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 ports for high-speed data transfer
