Perfect for Kombucha! I pour warm tap water to warm the glass before pouring hot water for sweet tea. It didn't bang, so +++! As I am using this for Kombucha I do not need a lid as I use flip top glass bottles for the second fermentation to ensure maximum bubbles (carbonation). The tin was well wrapped and packaged. The price is great too! The glass is double-walled, so quite thick! I definitely recommend for kombucha. Something with a better lid is recommended for pickling. It says "sealed" and it could very well be, but I personally use pickle jars. This jar is the best for kombucha! Update: I've ordered several of these; Arkansas (made in USA) Glas and Pacas (made in Italy) both have a great tin, I ordered from them first. The last tin I ordered (shipped and sold) from Revain, the lid was broken on arrival, I have since returned it and am waiting for a replacement. The jar appeared to be of good quality but no country of origin was indicated, the lid was the only piece broken (it had cracked into pieces along the screw). and although I don't normally use a lid, I actually bought this for a Scoby hotel and my bevels are multiplying fast!
