Amazing Value and Incredible Fun

I'm new to Arduino today and my previous microcontroller experience has been a very simple design using Microchip's PIC processor to control the lighting. I was struggling with my second project which required an LCD connection. I decided to switch to Arduino because it has a much better online support system. I received the full REXQualis UNO R3 starter kit this afternoon and it turned out to be a very smart move. I've made more progress in a few hours than I have in the past week. Now more specifically about this set: first for the worse. I had trouble putting most of the components back into the case after checking all the included components :). Now for the good. In the first 30 minutes I was able to boot the IDE with the Arduino and set up the UNO R3 and run a simple program that will blink an LED in less than 30 minutes using an example I found online. I spent the rest of the day and evening adding peripherals and code to use them the way I wanted. I use some of the kits and some of the more specialized ones that I ordered separately and they all integrate easily. It really is plug and play and there are so many examples online to get you started. This set is amazing value and comes with so many accessories that you can experiment forever. So far every component, solderless breadboard and jumper I've used has worked as expected. I have to admit that I barely touched all the components that come with the kit. I highly recommend this kit to anyone who wants to delve into the world of microcontrollers.

Pros
  • Over 200 components, the most complete set you will find anywhere. Inexpensive starter kit with 67 kinds of electronic components.
Cons
  • Very expensive
