I recently started using a manual spiralizer and I have not been able to slice veggies evenly. I was looking at a self-contained crank spiralizer when I saw that KitchenAid had released a new attachment that not only gets the job done, but can spiralize veggies and even peel them at the same time. I love the idea of expanding my blender instead of taking up space in my kitchen with another item. It also replaces my old-fashioned manual potato peeler, so I'm really making progress in space with this attachment. The only thing I don't like about this set is that part of it is plastic. It looks like it could be all metal (like my potato peeler) and I have a feeling that given the attachment's high price tag, it may not last as long as I expected. Strangely, I had some problems with the metal part. Nozzles "peeler". I tried too hard to remove it from the base unit and the flimsy metal actually bent. To fix it, my husband had to take the knife apart with a torx driver (a special screwdriver) to get it back into shape. Lesson learned, even metal can't take too much, and it's not a high-performance metal, more like a thin, pliable sheet of metal than anything strong. The idea of using my mixer is not new to me. I have several attachments for my Kitchenaid that I have purchased over the years. I use them all fairly regularly and I assume this is one that I use quite a bit now that I've learned to be gentle with it. What I really like is the work he does with my vegetables. . I was able to spiral zucchini, yellow squash, and beetroot so they look great in my salad. I also used zucchini instead of pasta in my homemade marinara. It tasted amazing and was so much better for my husband and I. I usually cook a pasta dish twice a week and in the future I will replace one of them with zucchini. I also made potatoes, but instead of frying them, I drizzled them with olive oil, baked them, then added salt, pepper, and granulated garlic. I plan on cooking them in the fryer to see if I can get a nice crispy crust on them. The spiral blade is great - I was able to peel and slice some fruit salad apples for my 4th of July BBQ. This is usually a long job but after using the spiral blade all I had to do was make a cut through the apple and I had nice thin slices that worked great. I also used a spiral radish knife. Since I eat salad almost every night, I will definitely use this attachment regularly. Love the way it works, wish it was all metal and look forward to using it often. I will definitely update this review if I run into any issues with the plastic parts of the product in the future.
