Review on ๐Ÿš— Securely Mount Your Garmin with the Portable Friction Dashboard Mount by Jason Spainhour

I wanted to like it. Very nice and light but causes vibration.

I REALLY wanted to like this mount; I really knew. When it first came out here, I was impressed by the light weight compared to the Garmin Friction Beanbag Mount (which I still love. Whichever stand you attach to the ball mount, it's a tight fit. So I went out and roughly shaped it.. to the Camry dashboard. Now all I had to do was wait for 2597 to get here. That's where the frustration kicked in. As I drove to let the new GPS initialize some of its functions, it vibrated to the point which was hard to read at times.Even slight vibrations from the engine when stopped at a traffic light.Unfortunately, Garmin has reduced the weight of newer sat navs, changed the mounting system (unlike my 1490LMT), and the bullet is slightly different. Time to Test mounted a 1490 on this mount. Because the unit was heavier and actually had a stand attached to the sphere, vibration was minimal, no more than 25% of power ng of the 2597. I really expected the vibration to be minimal. The silicone base absorbed a lot. Then I saw another part of the problem. The silicone/rubber base stays firmly in place even if it doesn't fit perfectly in the top center of the dashboard. The plastic base vibrates right where it attaches to the rubber part. If you hit a bump, the base won't move or slide on the dashboard; but the plastic definitely cracks at the base. IMHO that's enough for heavier devices, but there are problems when it gets lighter. This is probably perfect for 7-inch devices, but not for the new slim design. Too bad. I wouldn't mind, but consumer products just aren't made for it.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Some difficulties
