I took the old one apart, cleaned it and spent another 4 months before it started leaking again so finally decided to replace it. The older version, which was bulkier, had the butt broken into several pieces and the plastic parts cracked. I contacted Delta to just replace the piston part and possibly the rubber diaphragm that the piston pushes against to close the valve but they told me it was not possible. Went contactless for a week until this new one came. At the moment the installation took 1 minute because I got used to it after trying to fix the old one. Also, it's actually quite simple, so even a dummy like me can do it. The new one seems to have a smoother on/off transition and works well. Also, it fits smaller and better under our cluttered sink with all the clogged disposal lines, dishwasher lines etc. I'll be fine if I live another 7 years. Now I'm looking at a power supply as I have a spare 120v outlet under the sink and can eliminate the battery.
