Review on Gear Up for Interactive Learning with Learning Resources Gears Motorized Pieces by Ray Mcknight

This item was bought for my son for Christmas and it was assembled with no problems. There are two buttons on the remote and after 30 minutes the first button stopped working and we couldn't turn the engine off. This let the motor run for about 5 minutes before we could remove the batteries. At this point, the smell coming from the engine itself was terrible. When I returned to the toy a few hours later none of the buttons on the remote worked so we advised my son to play with something else as you can't turn the gears by hand with the motor connected and it's not stable enough to turn to use it without motor connected. When we went to clean the room someone grabbed the remote control and burned their hand because the batteries in the remote control overheated even though the engine was not running. There is a risk of fire! For a company that claims to make durable products and is committed to safety, it has failed on both counts. I hope this was a one off situation but I would not recommend buying it due to the issues listed above.
