Beware Backstitch

This is the first cross stitch I've done since I was a child and I finished it in about 5 weeks, which was longer than I expected, but unexpected difficulties made it interesting . I love the finished product. If you are ordering an item with an outline, be aware that there will be reverse seams and you will need to follow the pattern/count a bit. I was hoping for a fully die cut design but there is no way to die cut the lines as cross stitching could hide them. The Christmas design I bought was full of reverse stitches for all the branches and got tedious at times, but it really added to the look of the piece. I also had to watch YouTube videos, to understand the French knot. This thing has 9 of them. I give one star for the quality of the thread. This thread is quite tangled and you need to be very careful. Make sure you catch knots before going too far, unless you're doing each stitch very slowly. I had to undo and redo the stitching several times because I had knots that I didn't notice right away. I've just started a new job at another company and the thread is much softer and easier to separate and pull through the fabric so I think it's a thread quality issue. On the other hand, there's enough of it, so if you lose the thread because of your problems, it still won't end. One last tip: if you soak and the pattern is still there, just soak it again. 2 bathrooms made sure of that. Make sure you catch your knots before you get too far ahead.
