Slim cable needles and a set of two are great

I'm a relative newbie to cable making, but I just don't like plastic cable needles so I looked for alternatives. I saw these weird U-shaped cable pins in a YouTube video and decided to try them. What I like about U-shaped cable needles: 1. the seams don't fall off 2. the seams and the cable needle don't get in the way. What I don't like about U-shaped cable needles: 1. it's directional: it would be a lot easier for me if I remembered to put a loop on the short end so I could knit it from the long end.2. It can be a little awkward to knit one of these as the other end of the U is right next to where you are knitting. I'm very happy to have them in my arsenal and happy both for this particular shape and for avoiding plastic. Hence five stars for them. But I also want to mention that on my very first cables - which I made as part of a quick, short attention project I want to do NOW - I only used an 8" round cable. I've been working with bulky yarn and had a short #7 round yarn on hand and it actually worked pretty well (knit in both ends; dangle fairly easily). I'll experiment with this idea a little more next time I make cables, but I might not use actual cable pins at all.
