Review on LG 34UM88C-P 34 Inch UltraWide 3440X1440P Monitor with Screen Split 2.0, OnScreen Control, Flicker Safe, AMD FreeSync™ Technology by Bobby Bishop

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great for work/web browsing, great for movies, good for gaming.

The only thing holding back this monitor from a hard and fast 5 star is its 40-60Hz free sync range and minimal BLB (backlight bleeding). Pros: The size is absolutely perfect for me. It doesn't look too big when you're sitting 1.5 feet away from it, and it doesn't look too small when you're sitting on the couch 10 feet away. This makes it good for work/multitasking and gaming as well as watching movies. Fun fact: Snapping two windows to either half of the screen results in two windows with more pixels than 1920x1080! - Colors are great - definitely an improvement over my previous ASUS 1080p, but I'm not an editor. - Good position. Looks good, scratches are not noticeable, durable, has good tilt and vertical mobility. Cons: - There is BLB. My monitor came in good condition, there are no dead pixels but there are BLBs from two or three corners. Only one of the corners is bad enough that I even notice it during gaming (not that bad for movies). I decided against an RMA. No regrets - Freesync wooo! But since it's only between 40 and 60 Hz, that means it's only helping you between 40 and 60 fps. Better than nothing, but not as good as the 35-75 Hz I thought this monitor was when I bought it. However, it was my fault for believing the optimistic numbers on the internet. An RX480 runs games at a native resolution of 3440 x 1440 in that FPS range, so it works. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase, but if I were looking for an ultra wide monitor right now I'd probably wait for something in the same price range with a better free sync range. On the other hand, joining the 21:9 club has been great.
