Review on Foredom ABCD Foot Control by Ashwin Chauhan

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very limited range for Industrial Electrical

I had high hopes that this would actually work. I plugged in my Dremel tool and had to push the pedal almost all the way down before the Dremel would start. I was expecting it to start the tool and gradually increase speed throughout the pedal stroke, but it didn't. He went from low speed to high speed with just a few millimeters of pedal movement. When I held the pedal in my hands, I could hardly elicit intermediate speeds from the instrument. Update: I picked up a single speed Dremel tool (model 100) and tried this foot control with it. I had almost the same results as the model 200. I hooked up an oscilloscope to the output and watched it. I find that the control pedal basically does what it is supposed to. But even a Dremel single-speed tool seems to have some circuitry next to the motor, and those circuitry interfere with expected performance. Update 2: I tried this pedal after repairing my Ryobi Rotary. Finally a success! I had to turn the speed dial all the way up on the Ryobi, but then the pedal worked as expected. So it seems that Dremel tools have some kind of control circuitry inside that makes it almost impossible to use an external speed controller like this foot pedal. So I've raised my rating to 4 stars.
