I have used a gravity lift gravel cleaner for many years. I recently bought this to use for cleaning and replacing water in a large tank. Worked better than expected. Good suction and light helped a lot. Returns water to the tank through a filter, so this method cannot be used in small tanks. However, the included water changer allows water to be sucked into the hose (1/2" ID not included) and out of the tank. To add water, simply pour the vacuum into a bucket of clean water and reverse the process. I had to put a bucket on a chair to get enough buoyancy but it's a lot easier than draining the water. And not too dirty. The filters can be washed but if the tank is very dirty it's quicker to close the filters change than wash them later.Very happy with this vacuum.(Bought from Petsmart vacuum, extra Revain filters)
