Review on 🔧 Efficient Delphi HP10144 Hanger Pump Assembly: Superior Performance for Optimal Functionality by Kevin Lawson

It's tricky to install, but that's the design of the Ranger.

The pump comes with a new seal and retaining ring. The rest is up to you. I installed this on a '94 extended cab Ford Ranger 4x4. First you need to remove the steel shield, which required disconnecting the driveshaft. Next you need to remove the retaining straps on the plastic tank. That was hard. They must be rotated 90 degrees to detach them from the frame. You then need to raise the truck high enough to lower the tank to get to the top. It got stuck on the filler neck, which I also had to replace. I cut it out with a saw and I'm pretty sure a lot of rubber particles got into the tank. I did all this with two standard hydraulic jacks. I was lucky that the tank was almost empty. If you lower the tank you will need these plastic fuel line clips to separate the two fuel lines. Then disconnect the electrical connector and the evaporator hose. I was then able to use my air compressor to blow the dirt off the top of the pump. Use a hammer and a large screwdriver to loosen the locking ring. Pull out the pump, replace it and the gasket, put the locking ring in place and tighten with a few screwdriver movements. I replaced the evaporator line with a new longer piece of 1/4" fuel line. Then you just reverse the process and juggle the tank in place, the jack will help here too. When I lifted the tank I got a new one Filler neck built in. This was definitely one of the hardest things I fixed on my ranger, removing the bed is another option as I saw on the ranger forums, but it looked like a different problem altogether.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
