Review on 🍷 Le Creuset Compact Wine Opener by Rick Everett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I bought my first one around 1985; Baffled by complaints

Looks exactly like the original ScrewPull I bought circa 1985. The teflon wore out the screw on my original opener and a new screw costs almost as much as the whole opener so I bought this one. As the Teflon wears out, more force is required to drive the screw into the plug. This has been my wine bottle opener for decades; It takes several bottles to open to wipe off the teflon! This is a great wine opener. I'm baffled by complaints about the lack of durability. I hesitated for several months buying a new one based on these reviews, thinking the quality had deteriorated. I'm wondering if people don't know that they have to hold the plastic wings that fit over the bottle neck to keep the opener from opening too far? If you don't press it against the bottle I can see you breaking the plastic. Simply hold the bottle by holding the wings of the opener. To do this, you do not need to make a lot of effort, just gently press so that the protrusion inside the opener does not slip off the protrusion on the neck of the bottle. If the wings were to slip the blade would break with great force and I can see the blade breaking. I've also seen comments about it being too hard to put together! That surprises me too. It takes no more than a few seconds and probably as much or less time to use this opener than any other manual opener. You could probably keep it assembled, that worries you.
