great shock, truck perfectly aligned!

They lined up my 2014 Ram 1500 perfectly. I had a 2.75" factory rake. I put the Bilsteins on 2.8 and it lined up my truck perfectly. my CV joints have only the slightest angle. no knocks, squeaks and vibrations in 4WD. The ride is a little stiffer, sportier, but that is to be expected from the extra coil compression. I decided to install it myself. I watched the YouTube video everyone has and everything went pretty smoothly. I have 26000km mileage. All the nuts and Screws were fairly easy to remove. Impact wrench is your best friend here. except for the top ball joint. the nut came off just fine. I had to pound the meaning out of them and apply heat to pop them out. It was also a lot harder the whole one getting the coil assembly out of the wheel well the video made this part easy I had no problems with the spring compression and installing bilsteins I posed sure the supplied washer was installed under the spool over the top plate. then the attached nut over the plate. Dressing the mother was a bit painful. had to use a hex wrench and 13/16" socket to tighten this. VERY, VERY IMPORTANT that the washer fits under the top plate of the Bilstein piston. This is shown in the instructions provided. If you don't, There is a possibility of the shock piston blowing through the shock mount, that's not good, you also need to make sure that the snap ring is seated properly in the shock's groove, it should rotate around the groove quite easily if it's installed correctly. Otherwise there may be problems too. You also need to make sure the seat adapter is the spring to the right of the shock. I've included a picture to show the correct orientation. I'm very comfortable and have never done any strut work before. It is really just loosening and redoing some nuts and bolts, other than compressing the spring, I can't stress that enough either, THE COMPRIME RENDING FEATHERS IS DANGEROUS! A lot of energy is stored in springs. Life changing energy! E If that doesn't suit you, have it installed by professionals. just had the tools and wanted to save a few hundred bucks. Alignment is required after installation. I decided to ride it about 150 miles. let everything rest a bit, tighten all nuts and bolts, then do the wheel alignment. I have attached some photos as well as before and after. definitely worth the money and effort I put into it. the truck looks a lot angrier!

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
