Review on Silver Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25mm F1.8 Lens for Micro Four Thirds Cameras by Bong Cha ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I am amazed! It was definitely worth the money!

Who needs a staff lens with a standard focal length (50mm equivalent) and a perspective that is familiar to our eyes, pay attention to this particular lens. In comparison with other competitors, it is the most balanced in terms of characteristics. The Panasonic 25/1.4 watering can is much larger, heavier, the minimum focusing distance is longer - 30cm, the focus is not so accurate. Also, its aperture ratio of 1.4 in real tests is a little darker, about 1.5 . And the Olympus is even brighter, about 1.7. And there is almost no difference in blurring at an open aperture. Well, the main thing is the price! Also, the new Panasonic 25 / 1.7, in my opinion, loses noticeably, giving out color halos and hares in the backlight, aberrations are also noticeable. Well, the dimensions, it is larger in size. So olik 25/1.8 looks the most advantageous, take it and it will definitely please you.

Pros
  • Very sharp across the entire field of the frame already from the widest aperture. Gives a contrast image with correct color. Almost instantaneous, accurate and accurate focusing. A beautiful pattern, the blur zone is very soft and "wet-oily", which is appreciated by those who understand photography. Chromatic aberrations are minimized, 99% of them simply do not exist. The special anti-reflection anti-reflection coating developed in Olympus gives impressive results when shooting in backlight or side light, halos, hares, as well as a drop in contrast are extremely rare, and even then in a small volume. The hood, as it were, is not really needed because of this, but it is included, which is also nice, it gives additional protection from impacts. The minimum focusing distance of 25 cm from the plane of the matrix is a very good indicator, you can shoot very close-ups. The lens is very compact and light, thanks to the plastic body, but very well made. The manual focus ring turns very nicely with just enough force and "viscosity" not to be too light, but not heavy either. A prime example of the m4/3 system is quality and convenience in a small package.
Cons
  • The price could have been cheaper. And so far I have not found any shortcomings.

Has pros: Lightweight, compact. Vigilant. Wonderful bokeh. Has some cons I'm afraid of losing the lens cap, because it is not attached to anything when the lens is open.

It would be nice to have an automatic lens cap, like on a kit 14-42.
