DO NOT buy this! on loading area & tailgate Accessories

History. So everything written in my previous review remains valid so please read it too. The problems started towards the end of last month (about three weeks ago). I tried to open the tailgate with the key fob to pick up some items but it wouldn't open. I couldn't hear the very loud drive/mechanism so I knew something was wrong. The key fob could lock/unlock the doors, so I knew that wasn't the problem. I've tried dozens more times. Luckily, it was accidentally unlocked without changing anything. I took my things out of the trunk and closed it. I tried again the next day with mixed success. It was pretty stable at the beginning of the day so I threw some stuff back in the trunk and closed it. Later that day it stopped working forever. I tried it a few more times at different times/temps to see if that's a factor, but I couldn't find a single condition that would allow it to work. Eventually I broke down and called the company that installed it (local AUTHORIZED dealer and installer of Pop & Lock). Unfortunately, from that moment I was unable to make an appointment with them for a week. In the meantime, I contacted Pop & Lock support and spoke to Amber. Amber was good enough. I told her about the symptoms I was having. She concluded that it was most likely a drive failure. It made enough sense to me. She agreed to send me a new drive. I called the installer back to let them know the part had arrived. As soon as I told them this, they informed me that there would be a $150 charge for the installation since it was a manufacturer error and not an installation error. I contacted Amber and she told me there really wasn't much she could do for me. Despite my reluctance, I thought I'd just do the repair myself if it were as easy as changing the drive. . How wrong I was It was quite difficult because the back door was locked. Luckily I have a tarpaulin that can be opened from the outside. After removing the top panel and torx screws I was unable to remove the cover as the latches actually go through the tailgate cover. I had to lift the lid and use a coat hanger to catch the tab to open the tailgate. There was a lot of trial and error, but it worked out in the end. When the lid was finally open, the real fun began. I immediately switched drives and found that they didn't work either. I thought it very unlikely that both would fail. I traced the wires under the body and found the place where they go into the cabin where they connect to the electrical ones. It was in the B-pillar molding. Everything looked solid and safe, I had no idea what was going on. Frustrated and unimaginative. I threw everything in the back seat, closed the door and locked the car. then it finally worked. I have no idea what caused it to work, but it has since mounted the drive normally. I've kept Amber updated to let her know what's going on. However, when I tried to lock/unlock it again, I found to my great annoyance that the "lock" action didn't move the latch of the lock far enough to actually lock the tailgate. I tried and tried but nothing worked. I took photos and videos and sent them back to Amber. Amber informed me that some parts were wrong and agreed to send some replacement parts. That was the last I heard from her. After a few more tries I couldn't reach Amber anymore and gave up. During all of these "adventures" I realized that Pop&Lock had released an additional manual lock for the Ridgeline. I thought this would be perfect to use as a failover if this problem reoccurs. The standalone lock is the PL6200, the optional lock is the PL6250 (which most vendors don't have but must be used if you have the pre-release PL8600), and the combination lock is the PL8675. Amber told me I would only need the PL6200 since she sent me the extra part I needed, but since she didn't I had to buy the PL6250 online from Car ID. Today I finally got the spare part and installed it. Everything seems to be working fine so far, but the instructions didn't help much. It seems my problems are finally solved after not being able to use my bed for almost a month. Support didn't do anything about this as they just sent an actuator to replace the working one I had. Other parts never arrived. Moral of the story: DO NOT BUY! I like the idea but the execution is terrible. If you must, do yourself a favor and buy a combination electric/manual lock (PL8675) or just a manual lock (PL 6200). Definitely do not buy these products from Revain. The only thing worse than the reliability of this product is the customer support. Buy directly from an authorized dealer/installer. That way if you're paying cash for setup (like me) they'll take care of both. If you came across this post because you had a similar error, please send me a message. I try to help you. Guarantee that you will receive more than just customer service. Much luck. * The item does what it is supposed to do. Since the cable has to go through the firewall and connect to the fuse box, I decided to just hire a local repair shop who often do such installations. With my Ridgeline in particular, I ran into a problem right after installation. I went to open the tailgate to the side, thinking it wasn't latched (it wasn't). I pulled the handle and heard a click, but the tailgate wouldn't open. Then I opened the tailgate and tried again, but then there was a lot of dirt in the grip and it didn't do anything. Luckily I was able to unlock and open the tailgate straight down. I thought something was broken inside, so I opened the whole thing up (which is quite painful) and found the drive lever had popped out of its plastic mount. I was able to shake hands with the goalkeeper and confirm that this fixed my issue. I haven't had this problem since, but it's just something to be aware of when opening the tailgate (I always check it's latched, and even then pull slightly first to make sure there's no resistance). In the end I'm glad it failed in the CLOSED position and not the unlocked position; However, it would be nice if the normal opening force didn't cause this error to begin with. I haven't had any other issues and I like that the tailgate closes and opens with the key fob.

Pros
  • Easy-to-read control panel
Cons
  • Not everything fits
