Almost nothing on this machine works properly. I use typewriters regularly, so keystrokes causing the problems mentioned by other reviewers aren't an issue for me, but unfortunately everything else about this model is a big problem. It prints unevenly (e.g. individual characters in a line wobble slightly up and down when typed), leaves ink smudges on the paper. The edge bell rings maybe only a third of the Time, and when it does, it's indecisive. The carriage return lever keeps slipping out of position, requiring precise return motion on your part to hold it in place. And if you're lucky enough to return the carriage to its original position with no problems, line spacing at best random, no matter what as you set (single, 1.5, double, etc.). makes the machine feel, sound and look more like a toy typewriter that you would buy for a child. In short, not only does it offer a joyless experience, it could be described as an anti-joyful experience, as if actively trying to destroy the life and joy that typing on a good machine can (and usually gives). Don't waste your time here. Find a local typewriter shop (most cities I've been to had at least one) and find a nice, refurbished vintage typewriter that feels and works well. Chances are it will cost less, it will be a fantastic experience to use and it will outlive your kids.
