Review on ๐Ÿ”’ Kwikset 335 Round Bed/Bath Pocket Door Lock: Secure and Stylish in Satin Nickel by Seth Wood

Works but requires maintenance.

Excellent but moody door lock. I bought it for the bathroom in the hallway with a sliding door. I am currently taking care of my mother who is recovering from surgery. I wanted to install a lock as a measure to prevent me from stepping on her rather than to provide complete privacy because if she falls and really needs my help I want to be able to get in easily. The door I have was already pre-drilled for a standard doorknob and this lock can be opened from the outside with a flat head screwdriver or even a dime so it fits all needs perfectly. After installing it, I encountered the same problems as other people. The castle began to work much more difficult. I could shoot it, but I wasn't sure if my mother could. The interlock disc is very flat and seems difficult for people with arthritis to pick up and turn. Turns out she can still control it, but that didn't satisfy me, so I did a little testing. It turns out that to unscrew the lock you need to make sure the plate that screws into the door jamb is flush with the jamb. My door jamb was recessed too deep when I pre-drilled it and the panel was about 1/8" in the jamb. I cut off the part of the cardboard where the lock fit, folded it up and placed it behind the panel so the panel was flush when screwed in. This halved the resistance required to rotate the locking mechanism. I also did this with a bolt hole in the door frame to make it easier for the lock to hook into the panel they provided me. Unfortunately, there is another problem with this lock. it was harder to fix. Pocket doors tend to have excessive side-to-side play. I can squeeze mine when it's closed and see it swing half an inch either way. When I push this door lock while it is rotating, the deadbolt does not hit the latch installed in the door frame. The deadbolt turns back half an inch, so this lock only works if I have the door centered and then turn it without pushing the door. I don't think it will cause me or my mother much trouble. make yourself comfortable. The problem is to force unlock. Both my mom and I can't help but give a little nudge when unlocking the door, the dainty retractable thumb grip getting stuck on the latch bolt in the door frame panel, which is just meant to catch the latch mechanism itself. When this happens, the best solution I've found was to pull the pocket door toward you while simultaneously pressing on the locking disk to fully unlock it. I can do it, my mother can't. The solution here I think is that I need to glue a small barrier to block the thumb grip on the left side of the panel installed in the door frame. Thank goodness the hook inside the bolt only grabs the right side of the same panel, otherwise the lock would be useless. Once installed the lock looks great, I just want manufacturers to take into account that most pocket doors have a lot of play. them in the design. At least the lock malfunctions were easy to fix once I narrowed down the source of the problems.

Pros
  • Round shape eliminates the need for a new groove in the door
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
