I bought this scale because my son is a weight lifter and needs to be very careful about what he eats. The size is perfect for not getting in the way of the counter when preparing food, yet large enough to place medium sized containers on it and still see the reading. We had no problems weighing solid or liquid products. Setting the tare weight is very easy. Place the container on the scale, press the tare button to zero the reading, then add food.
