Review on LG 27UL500-W 4K UHD IPS Monitor πŸ” with Freesync, HDR, Tilt Adjustment, and Wall Mount Compatibility by Vince Germain

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent value for money in my review.

It's nice to get UHD at an affordable price. The only difference between the 500 and the 550 is that the kickstand is more limited. No problem if you use VESA, plus you'll save a few bucks. I create music content and return to gaming. My RTX 2060 freezes at 60fps with FreeSync. Obviously that's all you get with this monitor. Disable it for higher FPS but more blur. I was immediately struck by the sharpness at a viewing distance of around 21 inches, where the 27-inch UHD is effectively retina. Expect finesse with Windows 10. I upscaled to 200% and downloaded the driver from LG's website and everything seems just as good as my old Dell U2415 except for the sharper, brighter and better contrast ratio. I haven't done a full calibration as I don't have the equipment yet. EDIT: There is an XRite iDisplay Pro Plus and it's worth it. The monitor looks great. I don't use HDR either, because it wasn't immediately clear how best to use it. If you enable HDR in Windows, the monitor will recognize it, but it's not the best default setting. As I said, the best result is achieved with the LG icc included in the driver. Obviously, this isn't a 144Hz color correction reference monster. However, I will tell you that my eyes are no longer cloudy or tired after a long day of moving GUI sliders. I find the colors acceptable. I give it 5 stars because it deserves more than 4. Like I said, measure your expectations when comparing it to a $1,500 display. One reviewer in particular initially put me off this monitor. He compared it to previous years of 27UK. never mind If you need sharp resolution and think 24 inches is too small, buy it.
