Wanted it to work. . . but no luck

The SRS warning light on my 2014 Nissan Altima SV came on a few days ago. . . most likely the connector is loose. But I wanted to diagnose the problem accurately before removing the seats or taking the car to my mechanic (who is very honest and saved me $000 compared to Nissan dealerships). Found this scanner on Revain.com for $28 off its $189 price tag. I read the reviews, checked YouTube and decided it would be a good buy. Continue reading . . .After spending 45 minutes downloading software and updates for the scanner, the scanner powered on normally when connected to the vehicle's communications port. However, the first test - VIN Autoscan failed. Okay, I know I can't read the odometer with my Bluetooth OBDII scanner, so maybe it doesn't make much of a difference. Unfortunately, as I continued, I encountered the message "NO COMMUNICATION" when attempting to perform diagnostic or OBDII reads. I unplugged and plugged the comms cable back in, which turned the scanner on every time with no problems - ignition off or on, didn't matter - and tried running the diagnostic again (ignition on as instructed). VIN was never found, I did not diagnose. Just "NO COMMUNICATION" and a list of steps to try again. Okay, maybe this is an issue unique to my 2014 Nissan (software should work on 2012-), so let me try again on my 2018 Nissan Altima SV. Same sad story. . . does not read wines. . . not a good sign. . . followed by "NO COMMUNICATION" messages on any of the four system diagnostics or OBDII. Right now I'm not ready to try to figure out the problem - it could be a bad communication cable or a bad scanner. I know it's not the cars themselves or the com port because I have Bluetooth OBDII scanners installed in both cars and using the Torque app on my Galaxy Note 9 phone I'm reading them just fine (Other Goods). My wife uses coupons for 25% off Kohl's.
