I've been trying to expand my collection of simple family games and Qwixx is definitely for you. It's easy to roll and burn, meaning it takes about ten seconds to set up. The rule book is only one page and the rules are simple. A basic rule is that you can never insert a number to the left of a number already entered. The aim is to tick off as many numbers as possible on the line. Only 1 number only scored one point, but if you manage to tick 12, that's 78 points! There are 4 rows in total, the first two in ascending order from 2 to 12 and the second two in descending order. Curves are easy. The active player rolls the die. You bid the sum of two white dice, and anyone, including you, can mark that number on any row. Then only the active player can choose either white dice or any colored dice and mark the set with the appropriate color. Neither is mandatory, but if the active player fails to mark both because they are unwilling or unable to do so, they receive a 5-point penalty. The game introduces a little extra interaction by allowing players to block rows. If a player has marked at least 5 numbers in a row, they can cross out the last number (assuming they rolled it). This blocks the row, allowing the player to cross out the lock, which counts as another mark for scoring. This cube is then removed from the game and may not be marked by any player. The game ends immediately when two rows are blocked or when a player has crossed all 4 penalty areas. The game is simple. Roll some dice, add a little, tick a number or two. But there is a very tricky mechanic here. If you're too slow, the game will be over before you've crossed out enough numbers to score a lot of points. Hurry to the end and you will likely be the one to complete the game with all penalties marked. Because players can mark the number on each turn, they always hope that those white dice will roll to the next number they want. It's a nice feeling of happiness. However, the game is not without weaknesses. First, depending on the group, it may take a little time. Each round you must do the math adding other white dice to all colors to determine which is better. Solutions are not very deep. This is a dice game, so it can swing. This is a good thing when it comes to balancing the game by balancing skill levels. A lucky player can beat an unlucky player. But of course it can be annoying when you're unlucky, although it's usually not that bad. After all, the strategy is not very deep. It's basically an attempt to get the timing right, but your solutions are pretty simple. All in all, this is a great family game that's easy to play. I recommend it.
