I don't have my own compost pile, so I can't tell you how well this part works. As for the bag, these are nice big, sturdy bags that you can fill with leaves and even some sticks and other junk (I'm not sure if compost sticks count as compostable, but this bag fits in). And hey, if you have a medium-sized rotting animal carcass in your yard, that probably fits too (definitely compostable). Not big enough for a whole deer carcass or Bigfoot or whatever. Tie them together, place them in or near a compost bin, and you're done.
