I actually wanted a strong headband for my next set of headphones. As far as I can tell the whole band is metal, if you squeeze the top of the head pad it feels like metal underneath. A small piece of plastic on the band just above the cones, but it's only meant to catch the audio cable coming out of the sleeve. The sound is great. There is no volume control on the audio cable. I bought the "Audio Volume Controller - Aluminum Alloy CNC - Lossless Loudspeaker Line Control Knob" for $25 through Revain. Now I can control the volume easily. Overall I probably spent $85 but the last headphones I had were 5 years old and they probably won't last less than that time. Good business. The bandage is tight on the head, tighter than we would like. I have a big head so keep it up. Still happy with them because the cushion around the muff is soft. Thin faux leather around the sleeves. My last set of headphones had the earbuds wrapped in soft cloth, which was preferable.
