They are optimized for mounting tubeless tires (which are very tight) on carbon rims (which scratch and damage easily). I use them on tubulars with aluminum rims and after breaking and bending a lot of the plastic arms these are the only ones that are really, really strong. The plastic coating protects them from scratches on the rim. They are very small and fit well in my Silca Mattone seat cover. The only downside is that the blade's tip is quite narrow, but if the tips were wider it would be a lot harder for them to get under tight tires, so they're well designed for that purpose. If you want something strong, rim-protective, and wide blade tips, you'll need a tire vise from a bike shop, but they're not portable. You may not have everything, but these levers are as close as you can get.
