I also received the beads in plastic bags, not the breathable bags shown in the photo. I was skeptical (of the product and the skeptics) so I ran some tests. I put the bag in an airtight container with some water, being careful not to let the bag touch the water. After 3-4 days they start to turn green. There are very small holes in the plastic through which moisture can penetrate. In the same experiment, if you poke holes in the plastic with a safety pin, they will turn green after about a day, allowing for faster absorption if needed. I took off a star for not showcasing the product, but I think plastic packaging still works for most people's needs. Another point: when colored beads are dipped in water they turn purple and as far as I can tell they cannot be dried afterwards. I have a package that has turned purple and I can't change it no matter what I do.
