to ensure good electrical contact between the cable and the pins on the .

All reviews were helpful and based on previous reviews I had a positive experience. When my headlights arrived and I saw how everything fit together, I decided to make a slight modification to the wire during installation. With all the problems people had with these lamps, it was obvious that good electrical contact between the cord and the pins on the socket was a design weakness. I really didn't want to buy 14 gauge cable, which isn't really needed in terms of bandwidth, and this is how I solved the problem of a bad connection: When I assembled each lamp and created a loop in the cable, pull the loop tight Make a bend like as sharp as possible. Then I cut off some insulation with a very sharp planer (I happen to be not only an engineer but also a carpenter); It should be noted that very little insulation was removed, perhaps 1/32 inch, leaving a flat spot about 3/16 inch long. It's not even half the thickness of the insulation, so the wire wasn't even remotely exposed in the middle of the cable. Using this simple technique and plugging the cable into a power source so I can test each connection as it's being made, I've had a 10 out of 10 success rate with no issues with any connections. I will update the information after it has been running for a few months. Incidentally, a 50 foot cable only allows about 40 feet to run due to the loops on each lamp, each consuming about 10 inches.

Pros
  • Hands free
Cons
  • Very expensive
