I've been using this for over 20 years in a developing country where the water is disgusting. It does an excellent job of filtering any sediment, no matter how fine (even the amount of bacteria) before it passes my UV filter. BENEFITS: Filters fine particles almost like flour. Bacteria appear as a slimy film when you clean it. CONS: No, except *all* ceramic cartridge filters are very delicate: hard to clean and you'll have to look for another filter cartridge. Suggestion: Try cleaning it with one of the following methods: 1) Very fine dishwashing sponge. (They are white and available in every supermarket.) 2) Water jet from a garden hose at an almost shallow angle; does its job perfectly and does not wear out, unlike the hard cleaning offered by the manufacturer.
