Review on πŸš— AUXMART Roof Rack Cross Bars for Subaru Crosstrek and Impreza: 2012-2017 Black Aluminum Cargo Carrier Bars and Replacement Luggage Rack by James Ohlrogge

Poorly built; ill thought out; not to mention inappropriate installation instructions.

Assuming it was a quality product and a great alternative to similar Subaru cross members. I was wrong. My first clue was that the instructions didn't match how the product looked in the box. The instructions are written and the pictures are shown as if the end pieces on the crossbars were already installed. You are not. You need to assemble them yourself. Not a difficult task, apart from the fact that it is not easy to distinguish the leading edge from the trailing edge of the handlebar. And it needs to be assembled properly. My second clue to a poor quality product was how difficult it was to screw the top half of the clamp into the bottom half of the clamp. It took many, many tries. We started with the front crossbar. My third clue to poor quality was that the back bar didn't match the post. 2013-2017 Subaru Crosstreks share the same roof rack configuration. The rear Auxmart handlebar was 1/4" to 1/8" wider. We couldn't move the pole to the car. However, we were leaving in the morning so we were unable to return the item at that time. We only bought crossbars to hold our gear bag on the roof of a new car. So the decision was made to leave the bag (a great Keeper product) on the roof but attach it to the front crossbar (as well as the side rails). We used a mat to protect the roof/paint. We're on our way. The final nail in the coffin of this poorly designed product came after about 600 miles of driving (about 11 hours at 60-70 mph) when one of the A-pillar mounting bolts pulled out of the molded plastic. To our surprise, the "nut" holding the yoke was only 1/4" in diameter, with no matching washer. It couldn't hold the yoke for long. We also confirmed that the yoke on the opposite side changed as well Luckily we were in a town that still had an auto parts store open. Old classic threaded hose clamps came to the rescue and secured the crossbar to the car for the rest of the drive. Super disappointed with such a poorly designed and manufactured product. It will be returned I expect a full rebuild of the fund Ugh.
