I'm just learning to crochet so I don't have any seasoned experts to give. However, I do knit, and my favorite needles are hardwood, with bamboo coming second. This hook set is suitable for a beginner like me as they come in a variety of sizes and bamboo is easier to work with than a slippery aluminum hook. Although there are a few negative points. First, with some hooks, the space directly under the hook itself is very uneven. Depending on the type of fiber you are using, this can make your project difficult or difficult to crochet. I have to sit down and spend a lot of time sanding down those rough spots. Second, the thick finish is really weird. None of my bamboo needles have a coating and they are perfectly smooth. These hooks look and feel like they've been dipped in polyurethane or something, and they smell like it too. So I'll probably sand down all the hooks to correct the roughness and get rid of the unnecessary coating. I would have deducted more stars if the set wasn't so cheap. They're good for beginners who want to see if crocheting is right for them, but anyone serious about it will want to switch to a better quality crochet.
