The issue described below has been solved with the updated Realtek USB Gbe family controller released late last year. Since then I haven't had any issues with the device losing connection when waking up from sleep. I was impressed with the durability and design of the device. I connected several USB hard drives and tested their speeds with no problems. Ethernet speed gives full speed (only 500Mbps up and down could be tested) and heats up a bit. Docked with a star due to the fact that the ethernet loses connection when my laptop goes to sleep with a device connected. Only by disconnecting and reconnecting does it receive an IP address. Not a big deal if you're going to use it as a travel device, but not great if you plan to use it as a home dock.
