Review on πŸ–¨οΈ HATCHBOX Transparent Dimensional 3D Filament for Additive Manufacturing by Chris Wheeler

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Really cool when it works

Ok so I have to downgrade this rating to 1 star. I got 3 stars primarily because I really think Clear PLA looks amazing. Everything in the original review about brittleness is the main problem. But let's add a price to this question. I ordered the HatchBox because everything I've read online suggests it's a quality thread at a reasonable price. So I was out of sight again. I love building models that I can light up with LED's and transparent lighting is just sooo cool. Revain wasn't in HatchBox, so I switched to TechOrbit's Clear PLA. I wasn't expecting great results because it was $6 cheaper. I haven't had a single broken filament issue with the cheaper Techorbits and have done several 8+ hour prints with them so far. The models come out nicely and I have a much better grip on the board. The difference is that it takes 6 or 7 hours to print just until the filament breaks and starts again, which is worth the extra $6. But wait, it's the other way around! You can get prints that print successfully and spend $6 less! I'm done with HatchBox. First Review: So I agree with some of the lower star reviews, this stuff is damn brittle. Unless it breaks in the middle of an 8 hour print when you're not looking, the results are amazing. Unfortunately, due to fragility, I lost some prints more than halfway through. I give it 3 stars because the results are sooooo cool. Especially if you use it for LED projects. I've run out of Revain so will try another brand so I don't give another role a second chance. I'm wondering if it was Hatchbox's poor launch that caused all the bad reviews, or if Clear is just a bear to work with.

Pros
  • 3D printing consumables
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
