This light box (or mat, I guess) works well, especially considering its price compared to other light boxes I've tested. . There are a few small blemishes (power plug inserted at an angle, small spots on the front panel that let light through, edges of the plastic back panel are sharp/rough) but do not affect functionality. I wasn't expecting the panel to be particularly bright or evenly lit, but it is both. The backlit surface stays fairly cool during use, although the black frame does get warm in places. I bought this instead of alternatives, because it comes with a power cable instead of USB. I use it on a drafting table and wanted something that plugs into an outlet. The lighting area is actually just over 12 x 17 inches; It comfortably fits an 11 x 17 sheet of paper. I use a 2B pencil on 24 lb paper, then place a sheet of 100 lb Bristol cardstock on top and the pencil lines are clearly visible.
