Green wire connected to 12+ and black wire connected to ground turns on taillight mode. If you then add the red wire to 12+ (while the green is also connected to 12+ and is connected to ground) the red light gets a little brighter, but barely. Not enough to differentiate the type of braking. I get about 20 lumens difference between the two with my light meter and it won't pass the DOT test. Now I have to add an extra set of brake lights next to each of these sides so the drivers behind me can tell the brakes are on. Of course I will also add a center brake light, but these lights should also indicate the brake mode. Not so! Buyer Warning. They have a sleek design but poor circuit design. look elsewhere
