Review on ⏯️ Experience Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder/VCR Combo: HDMI 1080p Up-Conversion, No Tuner at its Finest! by James Pope

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Once connected properly, it is easy to use.

This is the second Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD/VCR combo I have bought in 2 months. I really like these units. There are two things you need to pay attention to in order for this device to reach its full potential. First, your TV must have at least one composite input and one HDMI input, or this unit won't do what it's designed to do: dub VHS to DVD, dub DVD to VHS, and also won't record in 6 hour mode. on VHS cassettes. Second, it is important to press the SET TIMER button after you have programmed the DVD or VHS to record while you are away. If you simply turn off the device, your programs will not be recorded. I have a Magnavox DVD burner that automatically adjusts to record once the power button is pressed to turn it off, but not this unit as it is a combo unit so it took a while for them to settle down new function enforced. After programming, just look at the little red clock, if there is one, your DVD burner is recording as programmed, if the little red clock isn't showing, your shows won't be recorded while you're away because you didn't press the SET TIMER button . Channels are wound via "RCA cables" due to the lack of a tuner, which isn't a problem at all. I really like this device, I have no problem buying refurbished devices especially when it saves me more than half on buying a new device. I highly recommend getting a refurbished unit, it costs less than $100 and works great. I also bought a Toshiba DVR620 DVD/VHS recorder because I needed to have a different brand combination alongside the Magnavox recorder because I couldn't program just one device because one controller would control both devices at the same time because they would be on top of each other. Both do the same thing, the only thing is that Magnavox is cheaper. February 10, 2013 update: The Source button does not work on a device that has DVDs and VHSs next to it. So I tried pressing the DVD and VHS buttons on the remote control and the result is the same but nothing. I recorded to VHS and now wanted to burn to DVD but couldn't switch because it got stuck in VHS mode. Luckily I had another DVD burner so I recorded to my backup device. Back to my dual Magnavox VHS DVD burner, I turned it off for a few minutes and nothing changed, it was still in VHS mode. So I decided to leave it disabled overnight and indeed it worked, it restarted. Now I can use the function keys on my DVD. So if you're having trouble with a stuck or broken button, try leaving your device turned off overnight and hope it works the next morning. Resetting the time and date the next morning was a blessing. I work with restaurant equipment which is currently computerized, 20% of problems are solved by simply unplugging the equipment overnight so it only takes me 1 hour and no time wasted the next day, win-win for everyone.
