I bought X90 as a replacement for Netgear Orbi 3 Pack Wifi 6 Triband (Rbk 753) The reason I did this was because I wanted the WiFi range didn't see/performance what I was hoping for. Also, the Netgear control panel wasn't set up properly, some features like parental controls weren't available. So my house is a one-story, 2,700-square-foot house with plywood under drywall, or so-called see-through walls. Clear walls are thicker and harder for optimal Wi-Fi signal transmission compared to houses with only drywall. Switching to two wireless hotspots scared me a little and thought about buying a third satellite, but I decided to buy two sets of Deco X65 as garage and backyard satellites. I initially went with the RE650 range extenders, but after installing them I found that they would not dock to Deco APs, meaning you would have to manually access the extenders rather than an automatic handover to perform. So I'm back with the RE650 and installing Deco X65s as my extended range satellites, which is about half the cost of buying two more X90s. TPlink allows you to pair Deco APs so I can pair my X90s with X65s as they are part of the Deco family and control/manage them from the Deco app. I have some IT experience so setting up the X90 was a few steps up compared to the Netgear Orbi but nothing that complicates it. VERY IMPORTANT. Be sure to update the X90 firmware after the initial setup. Initial setup was fairly easy and gives you the option to set up (purchase) parental controls and download internet safety downloads. Many dollars we pay for the X90 you would think it would be included, but it isn't. Get Homeshield Pro and get the Avira security package on offer if you want to be well protected. So after the initial setup via the app, the network was a bit unstable and the main hotspot or satellite didn't show up in the app. multiple times. Also, I couldn't enable some settings. UPDATE THE FIRMWARE! So I updated the firmware and stabilized the network and I was able to get some settings that I wanted to keep and stay active. a few questions and contact TP Link technical support for help. Now to the first performance impressions. IMPRESSIVE! The X90 in my home layout offers solid coverage, even with my see-through walls. Compared to the Netgear Orbi I just returned (model RBK753), which is tri-band Wi-Fi 6, the X90 is much faster. I haven't done a full analysis in terms of speed/performance over different distances or radio mapping, but it's only when I'm surfing the web on my phone or streaming Netflix on my iPad that the X90's wireless performance is noticeably better. The best way I can describe it is when I surf the web on my phone, websites load almost instantly. I've had the system for a few weeks now. I'm also interested in seeing how AI can learn and optimize our Wi-Fi network. As I work in the tech industry, I'm seeing more and more AI built into products, so I'm hoping to see what the AI is doing here with the X90/X65 mesh network I've set up.
