So far, so good! At the price I bought it for, it paid for itself in just two months! Goodbye Bright House and your rental fees and Wi-Fi! That's the main reason I bought a modem. I've seen Bright House "upgrade" everyone to their "Echo" service, give them a new modem, and then charge them $3 a month for wifi if they didn't have a Lightning 60 plan! For real? FREE WiFi! It's enough that they charge $4 a month to rent their modem, but will they charge an additional $3 a month just for the wireless connection? No longer! It connected easily. All I did was unplug the old modem, plug in this one called BHN with Mac and serial numbers and voila! No questions! We also have a home phone with our plan and the only problem with the home phone was on the BHN side. Not mine! After resetting the modem everything worked! I set up gateway access in less than 3 minutes and everything was perfect! What was funny was how the BHN rep tried to talk me out of plugging in my own modem and continuing to use their "new" modem. Honestly, we got better wifi signal and internet speed with this modem than BHN modem. This modem is as good as, if not better than, the Arris modem that BHN rents to its customers! If you have an Echo service, you can still use this modem with your signal booster. This modem can be configured for 5 GHz. However since I live in a small area I set it to 2.5GHz as the signal is not as weak as 5GHz. Also, most wireless devices (smartphones, old laptops) don't support 5 GHz. This is only really good if your device is hardwired to the modem. I'm actually relieved that Big Brother Bright House is telling me what I can and can't do with internet services that I pay yin-yang for! I paid about $15 for it as a refurbished device (which is really no different than the devices BHN makes available to its customers) and it saves me $84 a year (plus additional taxes) on my BHN bill . Not a bad investment, if I do say so myself!
