Review on Garmin dezl OTR700: Advanced 7-inch GPS Truck Navigator with Easy-to-Read Touchscreen Display, Custom Truck Routing, and Load-to-Dock Guidance by Ellington Gardner

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Size: 10. Software: 3

The menu is not intuitive at all. The software urgently needs updates/upgrades. The speaker is terrible, the sound is hoarse. You are stuck with the voices on your device because the software update is not working again. Sure, the screen is huge, but the software is far from ready for release. I've been in contact with support since I bought it one item at a time. They told me to return it and when I did the same problems came up. I have to say the support is decent, but I've never had to contact Garmin support before for either of the previous two Dezl units I've bought. There are some silly new "features" that are just iterations of other GPS features. Some of the 780's features that I've come to rely on are either gone or hidden in impenetrable menus. It's just too frustrating to use for something as seemingly simple as GPS that usually just plugs in and works. Problems can't be fixed by a software overhaul so I'm hoping for the best but the device, the software that comes with it, is really all you're entitled to. Unless or until they fix this, I'd stick with previous generations. Update 22 Sep 21: The software is still terrible. The meager updates are mostly language corrections. You still cannot change any of the voices in the accompanying PC software. I'm using my 780 again, although I really like the OTR1000's large screen. Why they chose to hide commonly used menus and options is beyond me. This car is so expensive and so crappy that I get incredibly upset when I think about what it could be.

Pros
  • Trucking GPS
Cons
  • Very expensive
