"This is my handheld milk frother. There are many others like it, but this one is mine."There are a lot of handheld milk frother listings and they all seem to share the same design. That is, a wand attached to a battery-powered motor. I chose this one because it features a stacked double whisk instead of a single whisk. This is likely going to be less useful than I thought, but you know, [grunt] more power [grunt, snort]!I have only tested this on cow milk. Results with plant-based (soy, almond, oat) alt milk, based on my experience, will be different. That is, those alt milk will tend to be less foamy. Cow milk will foam, and maintain the foam better than plant-based alt milks. Barista formulations of the plant-based alt milks will foam better than their non-barista counterparts.I should note that the ideal container/pitcher to pair with this device is one that is at least 3x the volume of milk used. This device can produce a lot of foam in the wrong hands, and we don't want that foam all over the countertop. For warm/hot foam to add to drinks, heat the milk up first. This device will not heat the milk. The milk should be 140 - 150 °F (60 to 65°C).Operation is pretty simple. Put the whisk end into the milk, toward the bottom of the pitcher, and press the button. Press the button again to stop. For silky, micro-foam for latter art, a bit more work will be required. For that, tilt the pitcher slightly and put the business end of the wand at the bottom of the tilted side. Press the button and run the whisk for a few seconds to inject air into the milk. Tilt the pitcher a little more while tilting the frother more horizontally. The whisk should be somewhat vertical so the milk and foam will mix from top to bottom without introducing any more air. Stop when there are no more large bubbles. The texture should look a bit like wet paint. I don't have tips for pouring latter art. My attempts at it can best be described as "abstract". This is where the stacked whisks of the device is less useful. More milk is needed to cover the stacked whisks compared to the typical single whisk devices. The foam quality, even if the fancy micro-foam technique is not applied, is actually pretty good. Thick and, well, foamy. Great for topping off a drink. Latte art quality foam will require practice.
